Message from Principal Luna, April 12, 2021
Hello Muirlands Community,
I wanted to let you know that we had a fantastic first day of the new grading period. I was able to visit every classroom today and visit with our students and staff. The students were smiling, learning, and enjoying themselves. I made sure to say hello to our students that were learning online as well.
Our district experienced internet issues early in the day but made some adjustments to allow better connectivity as the day went along.
I want to thank all the families who have chosen to return to campus for being prepared and follow the guidelines and suggestions given. Out of the 600 students we had scheduled to return to campus, we only had 10 students that did not have their ClearPass ready. Our Link Crew students were excellent in answering student questions and helping our new students navigate the campus. All students did a great job of safely entering campus and transitioning to their classes.
A few quick notes as we move forward:
- Please complete your ClearPass before leaving your home
- Please do not use our parking lots or bus loading zone to drop off or pick up students
- Please do not drop off students before 8:10 a.m. We will not be able to open our gates and supervise students until 8:15 a.m.
- Please arrange a pick-up spot and routine with your student. We dismiss students at 12:35 pm
- Students riding bikes need to enter through the 100 building gate. Skateboards are not allowed on campus
- Please remind your student of the importance of maintaining appropriate social distancing at all times and always wearing a mask on campus
Sincerely,
Principal Luna

Hello Muirlands Community,

Below are a few things you can do to prepare your student for April 12:
- Have an age-appropriate conversation with your student about why your family chose the hybrid model or the online option. Students may have friends who made different decisions, and students need to understand every choice deserves to be respected.
- Practice proper hygiene. Remind students to thoroughly wash their hands for enough time to kill all germs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends scrubbing your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.
- Practice wearing a mask. Masks will be required when students return to campus. Students should practice covering both their nose and mouth with a snug but comfortable mask.
- Review the rules on physical distancing. As much as friends may wish to greet each other warmly on campus next week, everyone must keep a respectful distance between themselves and other students. Remind your students about these rules for everyone’s safety.
- Help your student prepare for the new school lunch program. For the remainder of the school year, SDUSD will provide meals to all students at no cost. Students can pick up a grab and go lunch at dismissal before leaving campus.
- Confirm your transportation plans with the school staff. Busses will be running modified schedules and routes, so review your plans to get to school on time.
- Take time to learn the new entry points for school and the rules on lining up by the gate. These rules are in place to minimize the chance of Covid-19 coming onto campus from the surrounding community. Click here to view the entry points and the rules.
- Check in with your students to measure their emotional health. After a year, returning to the classroom can be as emotionally challenging as starting school all over again. Counselors will be available to help, but you can make things easier by talking with your students about their feelings.
We are looking forward to an exciting and productive remainder of the school year for all our students, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon.
Sincerely,
Principal Luna

Hello Muirlands Community,
I am sending out my Sunday Notes message a day early to address Muirlands movement to Phase 2 of reopening and your family’s submission of the final survey. Your response to this survey will indicate your choice preference between your student remaining in the online format or returning to campus on April 12th in an onsite/hybrid format. I hope most, if not all families, have submitted the survey that was emailed to you last Thursday.
Since then, I have been a part of several community forums and have gathered some great questions that address bringing our students and staff back to campus.
Many of these questions are answered in the following document
Muirlands PARENT Phase II Questions and Answers.
Please review this document if you are interested in additional phase 2 information or are still undecided about remaining in the online learning format or moving to the onsite/hybrid learning format.
Please see below to read the Return to Campus letter emailed on 3-18-21.
All surveys were due March 22, 2021.
As a reminder, those families that do not return a survey by March 22, 2021, will continue in the online learning format.
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend.
Sincerely,
Principal Luna
Letter from Principal Luna, March 18, 2021
Dear Parents, Families, and Students,
It has been quite a year and we could not have anticipated the adjustments to our life and school. I would like to thank you, our community, for your support, feedback, and adaptability.
Please carefully read the letter below.
All parents must complete a new online preference survey by March 22, 2021. The choices made on any previous survey will not be honored. Survey directions are provided below.
- Families who do not complete the new online survey will automatically be assigned to the Online Only model.
- Families wishing to change their initial choice at a later date will be accommodated based upon the availability of space.
- We plan to continue providing quality online learning for families who choose to have their student(s) remain online and provide an Onsite/Online Hybrid model beginning on April 12th.
- The Onsite portion of the hybrid will provide students with 4 days of onsite instruction for 4 hours provided by our classroom teachers.
- For the remainder of each school day/week, students in the hybrid model will work independently on lessons provided by their teachers. This “asynchronous learning” will be done both online and offline.
- As soon as we finalize our Onsite/Online Hybrid model, we will provide you with specific details about your child’s schedule.
My goal is to accommodate each family that decides to return to campus with 4 days of onsite instruction. Based on the number of families who choose the Onsite/Online Hybrid model, Muirlands may need to decrease the amount of time each student spends on campus in order to protect everyone’s health. In this scenario, it would be necessary to move to a 2 days on, 2 days off-campus model, for students who are receiving their live instruction through the Onsite/Online Hybrid model.
- Students receiving special education services will receive the services outlined in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in both the Onsite/Online Hybrid and the Online Only instructional models.
Please finalize your choice by completing this Instructional Model Choice Form indicating your choice for either the Onsite/Online Hybrid or the Online Only model by March 22, 2021.
Please complete one form per child using your student’s six-digit ID number.
Complete Survey (English) / Ir a la encuesta (Español)
If your response is not received by Monday, March 22, 2021, your child will be assigned to the Online Only model. Families who wish to change their selection during the final weeks of the school year may be accommodated based on the availability of physical space, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
To assist you with your decision I have prepared a short Google Slideshow that will show and describe what you and your child can expect if you choose to return to campus.
