Drop Cover Hold

Thursday, October 15th, SDUSD will participate in the eighth annual Great California Shakeout. The drill will begin during period 2 at 10:15 a.m.

This year’s ShakeOut drill will take place virtually via Zoom.

Action Steps:

  • Students should perform the Drop, Cover, and Hold earthquake procedure.
  • All students, staff, and parents should simulate taking cover under a table or piece of furniture for 60 seconds, dropping to their knees with their backs toward windows while protecting their heads using one arm while using the other arm to hold onto the stationary object (e.g., table).
  • After 60 seconds, students, staff, and parents will not evacuate their home. Instead, students and participating parents should review/create an evacuation plan for their homes.

This is a good opportunity for our students to learn how to react in an Earthquake situation regardless of their location. Thank you for your dedication to this drill.

Please let me know if you have questions or need assistance with this drill.

Respectfully, Jeff Luna
