The Enrollment Options Online Application for the 23-24 school year opens on October 3, 2022, and close on November 15, 2022.
Starting Monday October 3rd and over the next six weeks, families of students in the San Diego Unified School District have their annual opportunity to enroll in schools outside their neighborhood boundaries, including magnet schools.

Applications can be submitted any time during this time period. All San Diego Unified students are eligible under the program, as well as out-of-district students and those attending private or charter schools.
School Choice enrollment is determined through a computerized lottery system. Weight is given to factors such as sibling enrollment and magnet program continuity. Priority is not given based on when the application is received during the enrollment window, provided it comes in by the deadline of Tuesday, November 15. Families will receive an email notification by early March indicating whether a student has been accepted or waitlisted to a school of Choice.
Who needs to apply for Choice?
The following should apply for Choice:
- Students wanting to attend a school other than their resident school.
- Students who reside outside of SDUSD boundaries.
- Students who previously resided within a school resident boundary but have moved.
- Students who would like to attend a Magnet school that does not have resident boundaries.
Who does not need to apply for Choice?
Currently enrolled pupils who are residents, currently enrolled Choice pupils who live within the SDUSD boundaries, or students who have been accepted via Choice with a vid Interdistrict Attendance Permit do not need to reapply.
You do not need to apply yearly if you have already been accepted to Choice or if the student is continuing to the middle or high school within the Choice feeder.
